Joshua Davison
As half of the experimental IDM act String Theory, Joshua recorded music for some wonderful independent electronic labels, including Manchester's Skam, Chicago's Consumers Research and Development, and Milwaukee's Wobblyhead.
After String Theory, he and bandmate Nathan Tucker wrote and produced more song-oriented material in Parks & Gardens with OK Go's Andrew Duncan, and as a duo, released a tape on Plustapes under the name Thirds. In 2017 they introduced their own small digital label, Patern.
Soon after the Thirds release, Davison began releasing his explorations of the possibilities made available by modern modular synthesis, first on his own Bandcamp page, and then on the respected Tulsa-based Digitalis Ltd. label.
He describes his industrial-kosmische tone poems as collaborations between the machine ensemble and its operator. The complexity and randomness of shift-registers, channeled by hand into drifting voltage landscapes.
